My profession for many years has been to grow and manage the digital business for major brands. A sampling of brands I’ve been responsible for, or have consulted with on special digital initiatives, are Golf.com, This Old House, Time, InStyle, RealSimple, Budget Rent-A-Car, Avis, and others. Today I’m the Executive Producer for Golf.com, Sports Illustrated Golf Group. Also I’m a fiction writer, and a graduate from The New School’s creative writing program. By way of discourse on this website, I’d like to explore the intersection of these two areas of my life. What my offering is here is a unique insight into the digital business for fiction authors.
There’s a lot I could say here about where my stories have appeared and my novel work, but I would rather use this space to explain what led me to create this forum, and how I hope to be of assistance to you. I have discovered that my writer friends are full of questions about their digital presence. Though they don’t always understand what it is that I do professionally (as a brand digital strategist), when we talk about it in social settings they see that I have opinions and am always offering advice. I want to help them. I’m generous one-on-one with advice and insights, so why not create a place where other writers can visit to find answers? Particularly daunting for writers is the social media landscape. But there are basic questions, too. You can see examples of the questions I get from others simply by looking at the posts. I plan to repeat my answers here in this forum, aiming to provide clear and simple direction.
I also plan to provide links to others who are helpful in an ongoing series called “Roundup of Good Advice”. I’ll continue to update this About page with more info on what’s coming. One way to stay connected is to receive new posts in email by subscribing – you’ll see a place to enter your email address on the right side of the page (and in the footer of every page). Also you can follow me on Twitter @cxshade where I’ll be sharing links to posts as I publish them. Let’s stay connected. Wishing you all the best in your writing projects, Namaste, …Christopher
